Kilvish is a personal expense tracking app. We collect only what is necessary to provide the service and never sell your data to third parties.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following information when you use Kilvish:
- Phone number — used to create and verify your account via OTP
- Contacts — read from your device to help you find and invite other Kilvish users to shared tags. Contacts are not stored on our servers.
- Expense data — amounts, merchant names, dates, descriptions, and any notes you add
- Receipt images — photos or screenshots you upload against an expense
- UPI transaction screenshots — images you share with Kilvish for OCR-based expense import. These are processed to extract transaction details and are not stored beyond what is needed for the import.
- Device information — basic device and usage data collected automatically via Firebase Analytics (device type, OS version, app version, session info)
2. How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and secure your account
- To store and display your expenses across your devices
- To enable expense sharing within tags you create or join
- To send push notifications when expenses are added or updated in shared tags
- To extract expense details from UPI screenshots using OCR
- To improve app performance and fix issues using anonymised analytics
3. Sharing Your Information
Your expense data is shared only with users you explicitly invite to a tag. We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We use the following third-party services which may process your data as part of delivering the service:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database storage, file storage, push notifications, and analytics
- Google Cloud Vision / OCR — processing UPI screenshots to extract transaction data
These services are governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on Google Firebase infrastructure. We use Firebase Security Rules to ensure users can only access their own data or data explicitly shared with them.
Receipt images and uploaded files are stored in Firebase Storage and are accessible only to you and users you share a tag with.
5. Data Retention
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and associated data, please contact us at the email below and we will process the deletion within 30 days.
6. Your Rights
- Access — you can view all your expenses and data within the app
- Deletion — you can delete individual expenses within the app, or request full account deletion by contacting us
- Contacts permission — you can revoke contacts access at any time via your device settings. The app will continue to work; you will just not be able to search for contacts when inviting people to tags.
7. Children's Privacy
Kilvish is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
